No. 5 Elbe

No. 5 Elbe

The gaff schooner is the last preserved sailing ship from the era of wooden ship building in Hamburg. It was launched in 1883 and over 30 years, it brought the pilots to the incoming and coasting ships at the mouth of the river Elbe and the German bay.

As a private yacht the ship crossed the Atlantic more than thirteen times and even circled the Cape Horn in 1937. The foundation Hamburg Maritim bought the ship in 2002 and brought it back to its origin, to Hamburg.

The pilot schooner No. 5 Elbe wows its guests with its distinctive outer appearance. Hardly any other ship of the same age has preserved so many original details and basic fabric. Its inviting deck offers enough space for 30 passengers who may also enjoy a delicious buffet in the traditional salon.
